Storage
- Store under cover in a well ventilated building, do not store in a container as the variations in temperature will cause movement in the timber resulting in shakes and splits.
- Store doors flat on at least three level bearers, this reduces the chance of moisture from the floor effecting the timber and reduces the chance of the product sagging.
Installation
- The doors are for external use only.
- Do not cut locks into the mortice and tenon joints
- Where the door is cut, newly exposed timber must be swabbed with a suitable preservative, and ensure that all cuts are painted and sealed to avoid moisture intake.
- If using firedoors they must not be altered on site.
Finishing
- The doors are for external use only.
- The doors are to be fully painted on both faces and along all four edges, decoration to be completed before hanging the door.
- The use of microporous paints, stains or varnish is not recommended.

Many of the complaints associated with Redwood doors, involves the "movement" of timber which means the change in moisture content. This is not a fault of manufacture, but is a natural effect caused by inadequate protection given to the door when exposed to the elements. If the moisture content is allowed to increase it can cause the timber to swell and twist, and in certain cases break the joint. The opposite is also true if the timber is allowed to dry out excessively, resulting in shrinkage.
When presented with a complaint, we would ask that you refer to the above checklist, so as to establish the validity of the complaint.
In accordance with the usual custom of the trade the Company does not guarantee doors manufactured from Redwood, unless it can be proven that there is a case of faulty workmanship.
